Question: Hey Budd, I have a file which has 8 drawings in it. I want to enter 8 different descriptions in the TIMS database. After I create the first document file and record, how do I add 7 more document records (no file) and keep it linked to the same file?

Answer: First, click on the PROJECT folder that you want to create these document records. Then select 'New' option in File menu (or Ctrl+N). Select No File option (last option) with GRAPHIC and click OK. Click to Document Property window. Now you should see a new record with filename <no file>. If you don't see the document, refresh the document list (F5). Select this file and rename to an existing file name. Click OK to verification messages. Repeat this process for six more times to create seven additional records.

| Question: Hey Budd, How much work is involved upgrading TIMS3 from 3.6.2 to 4.0 ? |
| |
Answer: An upgrade from Version 3 to Version 4 can take anywhere from half a day to several days depending on the size and complexity of the existing installation. The database and file server components must first be upgraded, followed by a new Project Navigator install on all client workstations. The required files and upgrade directions are available on our secure ProjectWeb site. Of course, we’ll also provide the files on CD if you like.
I suggest reserving half a day to upgrade the server - it probably won't take that long, but it's better to plan on the side of caution. TIMS3 version 4 is compliant with SQL Server version 7/2000, Access 2000, Oracle version 8 and Oracle 9i, so one of these must be installed prior to the upgrade.
Make sure all files are Checked In before beginning the procedure. Also remember to backup TIMS documents (files and folders) and the TIMS database.
There are a couple of options when it comes to the Project Navigator client install. For larger or remote deployments, I suggest amending your user network login script to install the TIMS client set-up. If you have a manageable number of workstations to be upgraded, you may elect to simply install manually.

| Question: Hey Budd, Can Project Navigator list nested references of a Microstation or AutoCad file? |
| |
Answer: Yes. Click Tools menu then select User Settings.
In User Settings, increase Reference Expand Level to the level that you want and click OK to save the settings. For an example, set this number to 3 to get references in nested levels 1, 2 and 3 (Master ->ref1->ref2->ref3).
