Revision Maintenance/Custom Sequencing
TIMS3 provides the ability to define custom sequences for revision
numbering. You may wish to limit the list of allowable revision names
to a short list, or to define an alternative revision sequence naming
convention that meets your company's particular needs.
To set the maximum number of revisions and revision Prefix and suffix
the TIMS3 Administrator must open the Site Settings option in Project
Navigator and open the Settings tab. In the below settings the system
would limit users to a maximum of 5 revisions and rename revised
documents from "filename.ext" to
"filename(03).ext" format.

To access the Revision Maintenance feature, go to the Maintenance
item on the Revisions menu on the Project Navigator main form.

The Revision maintenance form shows five columns, explained here:
-
Fixed Sequence:
- This is the default ordering for the revision
names. If no custom ordering is defined, TIMS3 will increment
revision names according to this list.
- Revision Name:
- This is a predefined list, consisting of all 1061
allowable 2-character revision names.
- Revision Use:
- This field indicates whether or not a particular
revision name will be used in TIMS3. If, for example, you wish to
disallow the use of revision names containing the letter 'I' so as to
prevent confusion with the number '1', you can do this here.
- Custom Sequence:
- TIMS3 will retrieve the next available revision
name in the following manner: First, it will look for the document's
current revision in the full revision name list. If it is not found,
(that is, if it's empty), it will look for the first revision name
with a custom sequence. Failing that, it will look for the first
fixed sequence value.
- If the current revision is found, and it has been
assigned a custom sequence number, TIMS3 will look for the next
highest custom sequence entry, and use that revision name.
- Use this column to define your custom revision sequence.
- Modified:
- Indicates whether or not this entry has been
changed since the last update.
In the picture above, a custom sequence has been defined that starts
at '05', and decrements down to '01'.
You can change the sort order of any of the columns displayed on the
revision maintenance form by right-clicking in any of the columns you
wish to sort.

A popup menu will appear prompting you to choose an ascending or
descending sort.
