Document Properties

If you have the required privileges to modify the selected file or document, you can change the information recorded the documents properties - their associated meta-data fields.

If you only have rights to view the file or document, you will only be allowed to view the document information or file properties without being able to change them. All the fields will be disabled, i.e. you will see them in a half-tone gray color.

If the Project Navigator is in the Database View, you will be directly editing the properties of the highlighted document, if you have privilege to do so. If the Project Navigator is in File List View, the database will be scanned to find the first record in the current project with fields that match the filename and extension of the highlighted document. If a record is found then your privilege to edit that record will be determined before the properties are allowed to be changed. If no associated document record can be found then you will be notified of this with a dialog saying "No documents were found".

For example, you can enter a unique drawing number into the Corp ID field. You can also update the Title field to record the drawing description as shown in drawing’s title block.

If you are a TIMS3 Administrator, you may change the document’s owner. If the owner name entered is found in the list of known TIMS3 users, the Group/Dept field will be automatically updated with the primary group name of the new owner.

You can switch to the document details and custom pages for entering or viewing additional document information.

For a more detailed description of the document fields, refer to the Documents section of the TIMS3 Data Manager.

The Company and Discipline fields are selected from a pre-configured list of values as defined by the TIMS3 administrator.

Notes:

  1. The Document Details page that is displayed will depend on the document type selected. The example shown above is for graphics document types.

  2. The graphics type is selected from a pre-configured list as defined by the TIMS3 administrator. The TIMS3 software is delivered with MicroStation (uStn), AutoCAD (ACAD), and "Manual" drawings pre-defined as the possible graphics types.

  3. If the document is a MicroStation document, TIMS3 will automatically update the drawing dimension, working units, names of the working units and global origin. This information is updated in the database when drawings are created from a local seedfile, registered, checked in, or cleaned up from the workstation.

  4. The plot size is selected from a pre-configured list of possible plot sizes as defined by the TIMS3 administrator.

  5. The custom page is site-specific. It can potentially handle any number of fields, with simple database customization, but the default is 10 fields, where 3 are indexed text fields of 20 characters each, two are long-integer fields, and the remainder are non-indexed text fields of up to 30 characters each. The custom fields are also associated with the document type, i.e. for graphics documents the TIMS3 administrator can define one set of custom fields, and then for word-processing documents, another set of custom fields can be defined.

  6. Custom Fields now support fully customizable validation routines and allow not only standard text entry, but selection from drop-down list and checkbox fields.   It is even possible to customize drop-dowm picklists to look up data using user-defined SQL statements.
