New File

The File menu option New is used to create new documents in the selected project or sub-project on the server. When creating a new file TIMS3 will first prompt you for the name and location of an existing seed file. Your choices to locate an existing seed file are: a) on the server, b) on the workstation, c) use a default seed file on the server, or d) use no seed file and create only a database record without a disk file.

On Server

When choosing a seed file located on the server you will need to select the file from the TIMS3 Project Navigator. PNav will first display an informational message confirming that you will be selecting the seed file from the server. The Project Navigator window will then go into a special mode to wait for you to double-click the file that must be used as the seed file for the document that is being created.

TIMS3 will then proceed to prompt for the name of the new file as shown below.

On Workstation

When choosing a seed file that exists on your local workstation you will have to select the local seed file using the windows standard open file dialog.

Default (from Template Projects)

When choosing the Default (from Template Projects) option, users can create a new document from a specified template document. Users may select the most appropriate template document using simple filtering options.

Default

When choosing the default option this allows you to select a specific seed file name that is stored on the server. This option has the benefit of selecting a file name from a much shortened list of file names. This list is created by the system administrator in the central TIMS3 database. After you select one of these seed files, TIMS3 first checks whether the selected seed file exists in the current project or sub-project. If not, it then looks for the file in the system seed file directory created by your TIMS3 administrator. The system seed file directory is stored in the server registry under the TIMS3 Option setting called MS_SEEDFILES

No File

When choosing the No file option this allows you to create a document database record without an associated disk file. You must identify the document sub-group when using this option since the file extension of a seed file is not available to assume the document group that the new document should belong to.

After the seed file is selected, you must then enter information into the standard document property fields. Note that even though the current project or sub-project name together with the selected seed file name are displayed, they cannot be changed through this window.
