Rename File

You can rename a file by selecting the Rename option from the File pull-down menu, by pressing Ctrl-M, or by clicking twice on the file name alongside the document or file icon. After you enter the new file name, TIMS3 will update the file on the server. If the document ID is in the default format (i.e. consisting of the project name, file name, and extension) the document ID will also be updated to reflect the new file name.

If the document is checked out when you rename the file, you can still check in, update, or refresh the file. TIMS3 will realize that the file exists under a new name and will take the necessary actions to ensure that the new file name is maintained on both the server and workstation.

If the Project Navigator is in the Database View, you will be directly modifying the highlighted document’s filename, if you have privilege to do so. If the Project Navigator is in File List View, the database will be scanned to find the first record in the current project with fields that match the filename and extension of the highlighted document. If a record is found then your privilege to edit that record will be determined before the filename is allowed to be changed. If no associated document record can be found, then no database privilege check is available to determine the access rights for this document. In this case, your login’s NT domain privileges will be used to determine the privileges required for renaming the file.
