MicroStation Interface

Special MicroStation tools are provided to allow you access to TIMS3 project and document information from within the MicroStation environment. However, the Project Navigator must start the MicroStation application. When you double-click on a MicroStation document in the Project Navigator, the file will be checked out if it has not yet been checked out, and PNav will automatically launch/start MicroStation to edit the file.

The Project Navigator is automatically minimized and remains on the taskbar. You should NOT close this session of the Project Navigator, as there is a link between this process and the current MicroStation session. The 'New File' and 'AttachRef' commands in MicroStation rely on using this link to communicate with the Project Navigator. If the link is broken, the application will be out of sync, and the commands will not work properly.

If you start MicroStation directly from your desktop, you will NOT see the TIMS3 Application option. When you start MicroStation using the Project Navigator double-click, a TIMS3 Toolset option is added to the Application pull-down menu.

You need to run MicroStation 95/95/SE/J/V8 to ensure that the MicroStation application is not loaded in memory each time a document is selected from the Project Navigator. OLE controls are used to communicate with the loaded application, to advise MicroStation to open the new file.
