The Cleanup is used to check-in the non-permanent documents to the server and updates the permanently checked out documents on workstations. In here, word check out is used to indicate either checkout for modifications (check out) or check out for review (copy out). The purpose of this function is to keep the TIMS3 file server and workstations up to date. The cleanup process will avoid numerous manual updates to TIMS3 server and workstation.
Cleanup is part of the TIMS3 Cleanup utility that is normally scheduled to run once each evening. The Cleanup will check in all files that are checked out non-permanently; the server files will be updated if the files are checked out permanently; the files on the workstations will be updated if they are copied out permanently.
TIMS3 Cleanup utility is normally scheduled to run once each evening. Cleanup takes place at the beginning of the TIMS3 Cleanup process. Cleanup procedure can be thought of as TIMS3 Cleanup PASS 1 and PASS 2. The PASS 1 is when all client workstations update the TIMS3 file server and remove all documents on workstations that have been checked out non-permanently. The PASS 2 is when the server updates all documents on workstations that have been copied out permanently. In PASS 3, the local TIMS3 server and the TIMS3 database is updated with the data from an offsite TIMS3 server. In PASS 4, the local TIMS3 server will update its local client workstations with any of the files that have been copied out permanently from a replicated project.
When a cleanup occurs the modification date of the document will be updated to reflect the change in file and the actions will be written to a log file. The documents can only be cleaned up if they are checked out from the TIMS3 server that the cleanup process is currently running. The current TIMS3 server name can be found in the third column of the statusbar (i.e. crd1).
The FILESERV-3 is one of the servers to be cleaned. There are some files have been checked out to WKSTN-1 and WKSTN-2. Only the workstations, have files, are shown here. The green light in the middle of the icon is turned on when the object is selected.
